About Downers Grove North Parents' Club
What is the DGN Parents' Club?
We are a committed group of parent volunteers who strive to bring relevant resources, both financial and educational, to the DGN community. We provide a network for parents to meet together and share information in order to navigate the high school years. The DGNPC directly supports the DGN community via student scholarships, special events, and monthly speakers, all in an effort to provide a more connected high school experience.
What resources does the DGN Parents’ Club provide to our school community?
Speakers: At our monthly meetings, we bring speakers from both the Administration and from the community, to share information relevant to parents, as they help students navigate the high school years.
Teacher Appreciation Events: The DGNPC hosts the Holiday Lunch and Spring Dessert Buffets for all the staff at DGN. Parent volunteers are needed to donate food items and to help host the event. This is a very fun volunteer opportunity where you get to mingle with the staff and parents, and show appreciation for all they do! Both events are popular with the DGN Staff and we couldn’t host them without parents like you!
Senior Scholarships: The DGNPC annually awards several $1000 scholarships to seniors based on a written application and interview. These awards are based on school and community involvement (not GPA or test scores).
What’s Next Scholarships: A newer addition, this scholarship provides funding for students pursuing an alternative path after high school. This award is designed for the DGN student whose post-high school plans do not include attending a college or university in the fall, but instead include the pursuit of a passion or career. The list of potential paths is endless, but some things we had in mind when launching this award to support post high school plans included learning a trade, starting a business, attending a training conference, pursuing a certification or an artistic talent, cosmetology school, yoga certification, massage school, etc.
Underclass Grants: Underclassmen can apply for $200 grants to defray costs toward a summer camp or program. This award is open to all freshmen, sophomores and juniors at DGN, and can be used for any type of summer camp or program, including those focused on athletics, music, art, and academics.
Volunteers: The Parents’ Club provides volunteers throughout the year for a variety of events and programs, including LRC Volunteers, Wellness Wednesday Supervisors, Vision/Hearing Screening, Heart Screening, to name a few. The full list of volunteer events can be found here.
Prom Support / Transportation: We provide support for the annual prom event. Historically, this was $4000-$5000 toward safe bus transportation to and from the Senior Prom in downtown Chicago. In recent years since Covid, we provide raffle baskets for prom attendees to encourage participants to stay for the full event.
Networking: Monthly meetings provide an opportunity for parents to network and strategize while navigating the high school years. This is a great way to learn more about DGN overall, including monthly updates from the principal.
Social Outlet: It’s not always about the work! DGNPC wants to encourage connections between parents in the community, and will do so via social outlets throughout the year. Have an idea for an event or speaker? Come to our monthly meeting to share your thoughts!
